New York City Street Photography Workshop with Zach Gray

Last month, it was announced that 20 lucky photographers would get a chance to join the amazing Zach Gray (of Zach and Jody Gray Photography) in an afternoon lighting workshop.  I set my calendar to remind me of the exact time the spots would open for registration and got right on it when the time came!  All spots were taken in a matter of a few minutes, and I got one!  This was going to be my first workshop to attend and lighting is an area of this field that I need to learn the most, so I couldn't wait for June 10th.

Our group of 20+ photographers, lighting assistants, camera man and model met at Union Square that afternoon, one of my favorite spots in all of New York City.  Zach introduced himself, gave us an outline of what we'd be doing and jumped right into shooting.  I photographed throughout without the advanced lighting, but Zach even let us take turns hooking up to his lights on a few occasions... You can see those more dramatic shots below.

This workshop was such a great time.  Zach taught us so much valuable information and answered all of our questions.  Thank you to Zach Gray and Adorama for putting together such a great learning experience for us!  Here are some of the great shots I captured during the workshop.  I can't wait to apply everything I learned with my clients one day!

You can see more tips from Zach on how to make a bad location look good with the lighting setups used in the workshop on the Zach & Jody blog.
